Protect your car from COVID-19.
May 8, 2020.
Given the risk of COVID-19, all possible measures must be taken. That includes the proper cleaning of your car.
Therefore, we share these tips so you keep your car protected against viruses and bacteria.
According to the health authorities, COVID-19 can live up to nine days inside cars, so you could get infected during a short or long trip.
If you ride with a person with unknown health conditions or suspicious symptoms, follow these recommendations:
During the trip:
- Open windows for ventilation.
- Wear your mask all the time.
- Maintain an adequate distance from the passengers.
- Do not turn on the air conditioning.
After the journey:
- Choose a chlorine-based disinfectant to clean essential parts of the vehicle, such as steering wheel, seat, door handles, windows, seat belts, among others.
After cleaning it, wash and disinfect your hands.
IF YOU TRAVEL ALONE
If you are one of the people who ride mostly alone in your car, you must also take special care. Do not think that being the only one riding in your car, reduces the risk of infection. Therefore, we recommend that you take the following steps:
Always wash your hands before entering your car.
Once inside, apply disinfectant to a cloth or paper and run it over the steering wheel, gear lever, brake, radio volume knob, door handles, seat belt, air commands, and lights.
After that, disinfect your hands with alcohol or an antibacterial gel.
Avoid coughing and / or sneezing openly in the car. Do not cover your nose with your hands. It is better if you use a tissue paper or if you cover yourself with your arm.
According to the National Center for Biotechnology, the greatest infection risk zone in a car is the steering wheel, since viruses, microorganisms, and bacteria are housed here.
If you take care of yourself, you take care of us all. Together we will get through this.
